L2: Empuraan, the follow-up to the Lucifer trilogy, stars the legendary Mohanlal and boasts a fantastic cast. It's set to hit theaters worldwide on March 27, 2025. There were some last-minute hiccups with co-producers Lyca Productions that almost jeopardized the release, but producer Anthony Perumbavoor from Aashirvad Cinemas successfully resolved the issues, brought in a new partner (Gokulam Films), and ensured that Empuraan will be in theaters in under 10 days.

Prithviraj's major announcement at 6 pm: It's not the trailer, but...

After getting all the financial stuff sorted out, fans were eagerly anticipating the next move, which they thought would be the trailer for Empuraan. The teaser had dropped over a month ago, and since then, Prithviraj had mainly been sharing character introductions. So, when he teased an update on social media on March 17, fans were super excited. While the trailer didn’t make an appearance, the actor-director did share some exciting news: Empuraan will be the first Malayalam film to hit IMAX screens!

Now that Prithviraj is back from working on SS Rajamouli’s upcoming project with Mahesh Babu, he’s gearing up for an exciting promotional tour. It kicks off in Mumbai on March 20 and is set to wrap up in Bengaluru on March 25. The trailer is expected to debut at the Mumbai event.

This time, along with the main cast—Prithviraj, Indrajit Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Saikumar, Baiju Santhosh, Fazil, Sachin Khedekar, Saniya Iyappan, and Nandhu reprising their roles from the first film—there are some new faces joining the team. These include Abhimanyu Singh, Jerome Flynn, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Kishore, Eriq Ebouaney, and Andrea Tivadar, among others.

As for Empuraan, it’s set to explore the backstory of Stephen Nedumpally, also known as Khureshi Ab’raam (played by Mohanlal), and delve into the Illuminati, leading up to the trilogy's final chapter. This installment promises a darker tone, reflecting Stephen’s shift from his signature all-white look to an all-black ensemble as Khureshi, and will introduce a villain who is just as formidable and influential as Khureshi himself.
