JioHotstar has revealed the worldwide streaming debut of L2 Empuraan, featuring Mohanlal. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film is produced by Lyca Productions, Aashirvad Cinemas, and Sree Gokulam Movies. It was released in theaters on March 27 of this year.

JioHotstar announced on X (formerly Twitter) that "L2: Empuraan" will be available for streaming starting April 24 exclusively on their platform. Mohanlal also shared a similar announcement on X. The sequel features a talented cast, including Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Saniya Iyappan, Arjun Das, Saikumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Baiju Santhosh.

Following its release, the film became embroiled in controversy regarding its depiction of the purported Gujarat riots. The creators of L2 Empuraan opted to eliminate 17 segments from the film. Mohanlal also released a statement recognizing that certain elements of the film had upset some of his fans and confirmed that the team had chosen to remove those references.

About L2 Empuraan

The movie serves as a sequel to the highly successful 2019 film, Lucifer. In this installment, Mohanlal reprises his role as Khureshi-Ab'raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally. Prithviraj returns as Zayed Masood, featuring a more prominent role this time. The screenplay is crafted by Murali Gopy, while L2: Empuraan is produced by Lyca Productions, Aashirvad Cinemas, and Sree Gokulam Movies.

Production commenced in October 2023 in Faridabad and subsequently shifted to various locations, including Shimla, Leh, the UK, the US, Chennai, Gujarat, Hyderabad, the UAE, Mumbai, and Kerala. The film is available in five different languages. The original film, Lucifer, achieved remarkable success, with Mohanlal's captivating performance as the mysterious Stephen Nedumpally resonating with audiences globally. It is considered one of the most expensive projects in Malayalam cinema. Within a month of its release, the film reportedly grossed over ₹105 crore nett in India, according to Sacnilk.com.
