Barroz OTT release: The Malayalam fantasy flick Barroz: Guardian of Treasures took quite a while to hit the big screen, finally coming out in 3D on December 25 last year. It was the first time Mohanlal stepped into the director's chair while also starring in the film, but it didn’t exactly set the box office on fire.

Barroz is set to hit OTT platforms soon

Barroz quietly dropped on digital platforms on January 22, just a few weeks after hitting theaters. Mohanlal didn’t share anything about the OTT release on his social media, but Disney+ Hotstar, which has the film's digital rights, confirmed it would be available in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. In their announcement, they said, “Dive into the enchanting realm of Barroz: The Guardian of Treasures, streaming from January 22nd on Disney+ Hotstar.” Fans were quick to ask in the comments when the Hindi dubbed version would be available.

About Barroz

Barroz is a high-budget film produced by Antony Perumbavoor's Aashirvad Cinemas. It features a cast that includes Maya Rao West, Cesar Lorente Raton, Ignacio Mateos, Kallirroi Tziafeta, Nerea Camacho, and Tuhin Menon. The project was announced back in 2019 and is inspired by Jijo Punnoose’s novel, Barroz: Guardian of D'Gama's Treasure. After the pandemic, Mohanlal and TK Rajeev Kumar made some changes to the story and script, which led to Jijo stepping away from the project. As for its performance, Sacnilk reports that the film earned ₹9.83 crore net in India and ₹15.1 crore globally.

Mohanlal talks about Barroz

There was a lot of buzz around Barroz before it hit theaters, mainly because of its 3D elements and Mohanlal making his directorial debut. In a chat with ANI back in December, he mentioned that he wasn't really interested in directing at first. He said, “It just happened. I wasn’t very keen on it. This is a family-friendly movie, perfect for watching with kids. When I first heard the story, I felt a strong pull.” He also talked about Jijo stepping away from the project, saying, “Jijo had the story, but he wasn’t ready to take on directing. He wanted to aim for a bigger film. That’s when I decided to jump in.”
