The reports that Mohanlal and Mammootty would be reuniting on screen after more than a decade for a Mahesh Narayanan directorial had sent Malayalam movie-buffs into a frenzy. It was initially reported that Mammootty would headline the project, which will also feature Mohanlal, Kunchacko Boban, and Fahadh Faasil. Now in the latest development, director Mahesh Narayanan has revealed that superstar Mohanlal will be seen in a full-fledged role in the film, which has been tentatively titled MMMN.
Mahesh Narayanan on Mohanlal’s role in MMMN
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the editor-turned-filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan revealed how he roped in the biggest names in Mollywood, including Mohanlal, Mammootty, and the Pan-Indian sensation Fahad Faasil for the film. While stating that the initial plan was to make a Mammootty-starrer with Fahad collaborating with him as a producer, Mahesh Narayanan said, “However, due to his dates and other issues, Fahadh then came in as an actor and we got Mohanlal sir also onboard.”
Apart from the Big Ms of Mollywood and Fahadh, the highly-anticipated film also features Nayanthara, Kunchacko Boban, Darshana Rajendran, Revathy, and Rajiv Menon.
While remarking that he is excited to have Fahadh and Kunchacko in the ensemble cast among others, the acclaimed filmmaker said that he has not roped them in just for cameos but will have solid roles with lots of scope to perform. He further explained that Mohanlal too would be seen in a proper ‘full-fledged role’.
Recalling the 1980s era, which heralded the golden age in Mollywood, Mahesh Narayanan said that he was a huge fan of movies such as Vartha, which was helmed by IV Sasi and written by T Damodaran. These films had strong political themes or social messages, and featured both Mohanlal and Mammootty, along with an ensemble cast.
And with his big-budget film MMMN, the director, who has helmed acclaimed films such as Take Off, Malik, and C U Soon, says he wants to explore Mammootty and Mohanlal's acting within his style of filmmaking. “More than this being a fanboy moment of any sorts, I look at it as a fantastic collaboration,” quipped the director, who has also written the script.
Meanwhile, the much-anticipated film went on floors in Sri Lanka in mid-November 2024.
Mohanlal and Mammootty films
Mohanlal and Mammootty starred in Twenty Twenty, which featured almost all the big names from the industry in 2008. But Mohanlal was seen in the Mammootty-starrer Kadal Kadannu Oru Maathukutty in a small role in 2013. The Big Ms have collaborated in over 50 films together.
