Bollywood icon Akshay Kumar has long been associated with the Hindi remakes of the popular Malayalam films by Mohanlal and Priyadarshan. So, it made perfect sense for him to be the chief guest at the Hindi trailer launch of Mohanlal’s directorial debut, Barroz, in Mumbai on December 11.

Before the trailer was unveiled, Akshay shared that Mohanlal had recently filled him in on the plot of Barroz and even offered to give him an exclusive sneak peek of the film.

Akshay Kumar gives a shoutout to Mohanlal’s Barroz.

Akshay shared his thoughts, saying, “We’ve all watched plenty of 3D movies, but this one was actually filmed in 3D, which is pretty impressive. There aren’t many films in India that focus on kids.” He added, “I can’t wait to see how audiences react to it in theaters. I think it’s going to bring a lot of joy to children.”

Later on, Mohanlal was asked about the collaboration between Akshay and Priyadarshan in Bollywood remakes. He mentioned, “Priyadarshan’s first film was with me, and after he wraps up a couple more projects, he’ll be hitting his 100th film, which will also feature me in the lead role. It’s quite unique – a director’s first and 100th film starring the same actor!”

Mohanlal says he and Akshay Kumar can't be compared.

Mohanlal shared his thoughts on Akshay Kumar taking on the lead roles in many Hindi remakes of classic films, saying, “You really can’t compare actors. They’re completely different – from their costumes to the characters they portray and even their body language. I’ve watched a lot of Akshay’s films that Priyadarshan has adapted, and he’s an amazing actor. He’s a total pro. I can’t say I’m that professional.”

Akshay, in turn, praised Mohanlal, expressing his admiration for the South Indian star. He reminisced about Mohanlal’s first film, Manjil Viranja Pookkal, and asked him on stage, “Didn’t you play a villain in your debut? I remember that movie and Chithram too. I’ve seen those films even though I didn’t understand the language (Malayalam).”

Barroz is set to release in theaters on December 25 and will be available in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
