Mohanlal, the renowned Malayalam actor, has recently added a new project to his 2025 film lineup. He announced via social media that he will be starring in the upcoming directorial venture of actor-filmmaker Anoop Menon, which remains untitled for now. Mohanlal expressed that this film holds a special significance for him. Produced by Timeless Movies, the film is described by the superstar as a dramatic exploration of themes such as love, longing, and music, with extensive shooting planned in Thiruvananthapuram, Kolkata, and Shillong. He anticipates that the film will be an epic narrative.

This marks Mohanlal's second collaboration with Anoop Menon, following their work together in the 2008 film Pakal Nashatrangal, which Menon had penned. Directed by Rajeev Nath, this critically acclaimed film featured notable actors including Suresh Gopi, Murali, Kalpana, Anoop, and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy, and earned Mohanlal several best actor accolades.

In the meantime, Mohanlal, who recently made his directorial debut with Barroz, which did not perform well at the box office, is preparing for the release of L2: Empuraan, the second installment in the Lucifer trilogy, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. This film boasts a large ensemble cast and is scheduled to premiere on March 27, 2025.

His forthcoming projects include Thudarum (directed by Tharun Moorthy), Hridayapoorvam (Sathyan Anthikad), Vrushabha (Nandakishore), AJFC_MMMN (Mahesh Narayanan), and a significant role in Vishnu Manchu’s Kannappa. Additionally, a third installment of Drishyam is in development with director Jeethu Joseph, along with another film directed by Jithu Madhavan.

Empuraan, a collaboration between Ashirvaad Cinemas and Lyca Productions, is poised for a grand pan-India release, with a notable 700-screen rollout in Kerala alone. The film will be dubbed in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, coinciding with the sixth anniversary of the original film, Lucifer. During the teaser launch in January, Prithviraj highlighted Mohanlal’s steadfast support as a crucial factor in his ability to conceptualize Lucifer as a trilogy.
