The production company Lyca Productions, involved with the film, is reportedly experiencing financial difficulties. Additionally, there are claims that Aashirvad Cinemas Pvt Ltd, the film's co-producer, is also encountering challenges with Lyca, which has resulted in a breakdown of their partnership. Lyca Productions and Aashirvad Cinemas have collaborated on the highly anticipated sequel, Empuraan, within the Malayalam film industry. Featuring Mohanlal in the principal role and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, this action-packed thriller is set to be released in theaters on March 27.

Reports indicate that tensions exist between Lyca and Aashirvad. Lyca has been grappling with financial challenges following the underperformance of films such as Lal Salaam and Indian 2, with Vidaamuyarchi and Vettaiyan also failing to achieve blockbuster status. Amidst these difficulties, disagreements have arisen between the two production companies regarding the distribution and business aspects of Empuraan. There are speculations that Lyca may consider withdrawing from the project if adequately compensated. In a development that may facilitate the film's release, Sree Gokulam Movies has assumed control of the project alongside Aashirvad, thereby resolving any obstacles to its launch. Consequently, the release of Empuraan is anticipated to proceed without issues.

Empuraan serves as the follow-up to the successful 2019 action thriller Lucifer, starring Mohanlal in the principal role. This sequel features an impressive ensemble cast, including Prithviraj Sukumaran, who is also taking on directing duties, alongside Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, and Manju Warrier, among others.
