In a recent announcement, the Censor Board has granted the film a U/A certificate, confirming that the Mohanlal-led production is set to premiere on March 27, 2025, as planned. Empuraan has been granted a U/A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), according to online sources. Additionally, the runtime for L2 Empuraan has been reported to be approximately 180 minutes.

With the certification now in place for Mohanlal’s thriller, fans are keenly anticipating the announcement of the first-day-first-show timings. An update regarding these timings is anticipated later this week.

Empuraan plot – what can we expect?

The runtime of Empuraan has been confirmed to be approximately three hours, indicating that director Prithviraj and writer Murali Gopy are poised to deliver an action-filled narrative that continues the storyline established in the first installment of the franchise, Lucifer. The 2019 film concluded with Jathin Ramdas (Tovino Thomas) assuming the role of Chief Minister, signaling an end to the political turmoil within the state. Although the situation in Kerala appears to have stabilized, the narrative transitions to an international setting, where Mohanlal is depicted departing with his associates, all clad in black attire. Mohanlal, previously portrayed as Stephen Nedumpally, now identifies himself as Khureshi Ab’raam.

Empuraan is anticipated to explore this revelation in greater depth, providing further insights into the complex realm of power that Stephen, or Khureshi, seems to dominate. Prithviraj Sukumaran, who played Zayed Masood, Khureshi’s devoted and reliable aide in Lucifer, has indicated that the sequel will also shed light on the backstory of his character.
