At the teaser launch of their upcoming film L2: Empuraan in Kochi on Sunday, actor Mohanlal shared his thoughts on director-actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, describing him as "cruel" in jest. As reported by Mathrubhumi, Mohanlal also showered praise on Prithviraj, highlighting his talents and contributions to the film.

At the event, Mohanlal praised Prithviraj, noting that the actor-director has a clear vision of what he expects from his actors and knows exactly how to draw out their best performances. He remarked, "He is a very cruel director; he will extract what he wants from us, and that’s how his films are made. Actors perform well because of directors. I’ve worked with many directors and have great expectations from Prithviraj. He will become one of the best directors in India. Empuraan carries 100 per cent of his essence." Mohanlal also explained that the title Empuraan is derived from "Empuran," which reportedly means "a little below God."

About L2: Empuraan

When the political action thriller Lucifer was released in 2019, it immediately captured attention. Prithviraj's directorial debut featured Mohanlal in a commanding role as Stephen Nedumpally / Khureshi-Ab'raam. The film offered a fresh perspective on the familiar story of the prodigal son returning home, with layers of complexity. It also featured an ensemble cast, including Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Vivek Oberoi, Indrajith Sukumaran, Sai Kumar, Baiju Santhosh, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Saniya Iyappan, Nyla Usha, Sachin Khedekar, and Fazil.

L2: Empuraan picks up where Lucifer left off. While promoting Salaar, Prithviraj shared, "The film has a massive scale, and finding locations was a challenge." After delays caused by COVID-19, the screenplay for the film was finalized in 2022, and Lyca Productions came on board to support it in 2023. L2: Empuraan is set for release in theatres on March 27.
