After that, Mohanlal stepped down as the President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). Now, he’s speaking up about the efforts being made to bring about positive change.

Mohanlal shares his thoughts

Recently, the AMMA office bearers put together a Kudumba Sangamam, which is basically a family gathering. The event saw some big names like Mohanlal, Mammootty, and actor-politician Suresh Gopi in attendance. It really felt like a fresh wave of unity and purpose for the organization.

As reported by News18, Mohanlal took the stage and talked about the challenges AMMA has faced lately. He mentioned that there have been some ‘dark clouds’ hanging over the group for a while now. However, he expressed hope for a brighter future, stating, “We will reach the light soon."

Mohanlal also pointed out how AMMA's efforts often fly under the radar. He emphasized, “We do a lot more than people think, and we have the ability to achieve things that no other organization can — not just for our members, but for the public too.""

The Hema Committee report took a deep dive into the Malayalam film industry, sparking discussions about workplace ethics in entertainment. Commissioned to tackle the widespread sexual harassment issues, it was released last August.

This report highlights the struggles women face in the industry, revealing some pretty shocking stories of harassment and mistreatment. It pointed out that female actors often deal with unwanted advances, like drunk individuals showing up at their doors. Many women hesitated to speak up because of fear. The report also mentioned the lack of basic facilities, like toilets for women, and noted that junior artists are treated terribly, even worse than slaves in Malayalam cinema.
