Grief serves as the primary focus of Sumanth Bhat's debut film, Mithya, set to be released in theatres on March 7. Produced by Rakshit Shetty’s Paramvah Studios and having participated in the festival circuit since 2023, where it garnered multiple awards, the narrative centres on a young boy, portrayed by Ashish Shetty, who is compelled to leave his life in Mumbai and relocate to Udupi to stay with his maternal aunt's family following the tragic loss of both his parents.

The challenges he faces extend beyond adapting to a new environment and school, as well as interacting with relatives he barely knows. The film's trailer, released today, hints at deeper concerns, including suspicions regarding the circumstances of his father's death, with implications of foul play directed towards his deceased mother. The film explores how a young and impressionable mind navigates these profound changes in his life and surroundings. This exploration has resonated well during its festival appearances, earning Sumanth the Best Director award and Athish multiple accolades for Best Actor, alongside recognition for its script, screenplay, and cinematography.

During the promotional activities for the film's festival screening, Sumanth mentioned that the concept for Mithya was inspired by a distant relative's family. A man had succumbed to an illness, and shortly thereafter, his wife took her own life, leaving two very young children, the youngest being just three years old, unaware of the tragedy that had occurred. This situation ignited the idea for Mithya, as Sumanth sought to delve into the theme of grief from the perspective of a child.

Critics have expressed highly favourable opinions regarding Mithya. The film represents Rakshit's ongoing commitment to promoting narratives that are rich in content, which he believes can only be achieved when filmmakers are granted the liberty to convey deeply personal stories.
