The hunger for Korean content is immense right now. While we're all eagerly awaiting Squid Game Season 2, other platforms are also making efforts to capture the audience's attention with Korean content. One of them is Lionsgate Play, which is now set to stream a highly praised Korean movie from 2021—Midnight, starring Jin Ki-joo and Wi Ha-joon. This film garnered significant attention and was widely appreciated. It’s now set to release in India via streaming. Here's everything you need to know.

Midnight On OTT

Midnight follows Kyeong-mi, a deaf woman who works as a sign language counselor at a call center. She becomes the target of a serial killer, Do-sik, after witnessing him stab So-Jung. Jong Tak, So-Jung’s brother and a security guard, sets out to protect both his sister and Kyeong-mi. Meanwhile, Kyeong-mi's deaf mother also joins in the effort to protect them. This thriller was considered one of the best to come out of Korea in 2021 and continues to appear on many must-watch lists.

Directed by Oh-Seung Kwon, Midnight stars Jin Ki-joo, Wi Ha-joon, Park Hoon, and Gil Hae-Yeon. The film is part of Lionsgate Play's upcoming releases, but no official release date has been confirmed yet, though it will premiere in October. You can watch it on Lionsgate Play with your OTTplay Premium subscription when it becomes available.

Jin Ki-joo on Her Midnight Debut

Jin Ki-joo made her debut in 2018 with a niche role in Little Forest and gained fame with dramas like Come And Hug Me and Homemade Love Story. In 2021, she landed her first leading role in Midnight. Speaking about the opportunity to The Korea Times, she shared, "I hadn't really thought about the significance of my first leading role in a movie. Due to filming taking place at night and consisting of a lot of chase scenes, it was physically demanding. My knees hurt so much because I was running all over the place.”

She added, “Playing a deaf character in a thriller was far more challenging than I thought, so I did my best to portray Kyeong-mi's character clearly on-screen.” Her performance has been widely praised by critics, making her a household name among Korean content enthusiasts.
