When the Kannada film Matsyagandha was first spoken about, leading man Pruthvi Ambaar had been quite kicked about it. For the first time, he’d be playing a cop in a gritty tale set in coastal Karnataka, where fishing is the primary source of livelihood for its people. A more action packed role for Pruthvi is what the film promised to be, while actor Prashant Siddhi, who plays a pivotal character in the film, made his debut as composer with Matsyagandha.

Matsyagandha out on Cinebazzar

The film released along with Pruthvi’s For Regn in theatres, in a week that had several other films also in contention for a share of the box office. Matsyagandha failed to get footfalls, although the reviews it got were not too bad. In the time since, the film had not got an OTT deal either, until recently, when the makers decided to give the film a transactional video on demand outing with Cinebazzar OTT. Matsyagandha has come to the digital theatre platform, for a price of Rs 49.

Matsyagandha follows Pruthvi as the probationary station-in-charge of the Tonka Police Station, Param, who is desperately looking for a case that will give his career a boost. In the sleepy fishing town, though, that’s not going to come easily to him, especially when the fisherfolk aren’t too fond of him. To his luck, though, he stumbles upon a drug smuggling racket and decides to milk it for whatever it is worth. But his luck runs out soon enough, when the drugs he busted go missing. Can Param find the drugs and save face and his job?

Other films available on Cinebazzar include Tagarupalya, Orchestra Mysuru, Dasappa, Aarata, Usire Usire, Chow Chow Bath, etc. Next week’s addition is a comedy called Kandor Mane Kathe, starring Comedy Khiladigalu fame Suraj Kumar.
