Matka, starring Varun Tej, has turned out to be a massive disaster at the box office. The film has been heavily criticized by audiences, with reports stating that several theaters haven’t even recovered their electricity costs for screening the Karuna Kumar directorial.

Matka OTT platform details are revealed

Touted as Varun Tej's most expensive film to date, Matka carried high expectations, but unfortunately, it failed to deliver. As previously reported by OTTplay, Amazon Prime Video acquired the digital rights to the film for a substantial Rs 15 crore. This amount is considered impressive given Varun Tej's market. Sources suggest Matka will premiere on Amazon Prime Video by the end of this month, within three weeks of its theatrical release.

Set as a period drama, Matka narrates the story of a young man from Burma who rises to become a Matka king in Vizag. The plot revolves around his immense wealth, which catches the attention of prominent figures like Indira Gandhi, who assigns a special officer to capture the Matka king, played by Varun Tej.

Varun Tej scores yet another flop with Matka

Meenakshi Chaudhary stars as the female lead but unfortunately has limited scope in the film. Nora Fatehi also plays a pivotal role and delivers a commendable performance. Despite the intriguing premise, Matka marks Varun Tej's third consecutive flop, leaving his career in turmoil.

Varun, known for experimenting with diverse content, has seen his recent films underperform due to weak execution by his directors. Following this setback, he has decided to take a break to carefully consider his next projects, opting not to rush into new commitments.
