Matka, the recently released Telugu film starring actor Varun Tej in the lead role, has locked its OTT premiere date. While we had already reported that the post-theatrical streaming rights are bagged by Prime Video, the streaming giant has now announced the release date.

Matka is a Telugu period action thriller, which is headlined by Varun Tej. Written and helmed by Karuna Kumar, Matka includes an ensemble star cast including Meenakshi Chaudhary, Nora Fatehi, Saloni Aswani, Kishore, Naveen Chandra and others. It is to be noted that Matka marks Hindi actor Nora Fatehi’s debut in Telugu cinema.

The film released in theatres on November 14, and within three weeks of release, the film will be made available on OTT. Prime Video, which has bagged the streaming rights, announced Matka's premiere date as December 5. As per reports, Matka, which is the most expensive project in Varun Tej’s career so far, has been acquired for Rs 15 crore by Prime Video. 

Set in the time span from the 1950s to the 1980s, the story of Matka is said to be inspired by true events and based on the life of infamous gambler Ratan Khatri. With music by GV Prakash Kumar, the film is shot by Kishor Kumar and has edits handled by Karthika Srinivas. Matka opened to mixed reviews upon its release. The OTTplay review of the film rated the film 2 stars and said, "Matka is an ambitious film that has the scale but falters in its execution."

Lucky Baskhar is directed by Venky Atluri and garnered positive reception upon its release. The film has music scored by GV Prakash Kumar.
