This year marks the 25th anniversary of filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma's iconic 1998 gangster film, Satya. The film featured notable performances by Manoj Bajpayee, Shefali Shah, Urmila Matondkar, and JD Chakravarthy, among others. In light of this milestone, the director has revealed an intriguing update for enthusiasts of the crime drama.

RGV has announced the re-release of Satya

Ram Gopal Varma utilized his official X account to announce that the film "Satya" is scheduled for a re-release in theatres on January 17, 2025. In his post, he stated, “SATYA is returning to theatres for a re-release with ALL GUNS BLARING on JANUARY 17, 2025. The UNDERWORLD is making its way into the UPPERWORLD.”

Additionally, the director shared a tweet from a film industry analyst who remarked, “Successful re-releases are not necessarily the blockbusters of the past. They are cult classics that have redefined cinematic language. #Satya is one such film! I eagerly anticipate watching it in theatres on January 17!” To this, Ram Gopal Varma replied with a simple, “Amen!”

About Satya

Produced and directed by Ram Gopal Varma, Satya was co-written by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and actor Saurabh Shukla. The film features a notable cast including Paresh Rawal, Makarand Deshpande, Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Srivastava, Govind Namdeo, the late Neeraj Vora, Sanjay Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, and Sushant Singh.

The narrative centres on the protagonist, JD Chakravarthy, who relocates to Mumbai. Following a local altercation, he finds himself imprisoned, where he encounters the gangster Bhiku Mhatre, portrayed by Manoj Bajpayee. Subsequently, Satya is drawn into Bhiku's criminal organization, becoming involved in a significant conspiracy.

Vishal Bhardwaj made his debut as a music composer with Satya, contributing memorable tracks such as "Sapno Mein Milti Hai," which continue to resonate with audiences today. The lyrics for these songs were crafted by the esteemed Gulzar.

In recent developments, Ram Gopal Varma directed the Telugu political thriller Vyooham earlier this year. Manoj Bajpayee, who was last seen in Kanu Behl's thriller The Despatch on ZEE5, is set to appear in the upcoming season 3 of Raj & DK's spy thriller series The Family Man on Prime Video India next year.
