Marco Set for Grand Release: Makers Announce ₹100 Cr Bet on Telugu and Tamil Versions

The producers of Unni Mukundan’s Marco are making significant investments in the dubbed versions of this action-thriller to propel the film into the Rs 100 Cr category by 2025. The Hindi adaptation of the Malayalam film, which premiered in theatres on December 20, is already generating substantial revenue at the box office, and there are high expectations for the Tamil and Telugu versions to achieve similar success.
Directed by Haneef Adeni, this Malayalam film was released during the Christmas season and has already amassed Rs 34 Cr from the Indian market through its original and Hindi-dubbed versions alone. The total worldwide earnings are projected to reach approximately Rs 70 Cr, considering the film was produced with a budget of Rs 30 Cr.
Marco Tamil version release date announced
Following its remarkable success in North India, where the film initially had only 34 screenings and has now surged to over 600 within a week, the producers of Marco have announced that the Tamil version of the film will be released in theatres across Tamil Nadu on January 3, 2025.
Additionally, the Hindi version of the movie is scheduled to premiere in theatres throughout the GCC on January 1, 2025, a market that has already emerged as the second most promising for Marco after Kerala. Furthermore, the Telugu version, for which the rights were sold for Rs 3 Cr along with a share of the profits, is also set to debut in theatres in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on New Year’s Day.
Marco set to enter Rs 100 Cr club in 2025?
Marco's ascent towards the Rs 100 Cr club has been significantly aided by the absence of notable releases in any of the relevant languages over the next two weeks. The mediocre reviews for Baby John have resulted in Marco and Mufasa: The Lion King taking the place of the Varun Dhawan-starrer. The Unni Mukundan film is anticipated to enjoy a strong performance for nearly two weeks in North India.
In addition, there are no major Tamil or Telugu releases scheduled until January 10, which allows the Malayalam film to have a clear path in these regions. However, on the local front, Tovino Thomas' Identity, set to premiere on January 2, along with Asif Ali's Rekhachithram, which is slated for release on January 10, is expected to take over the box office from Marco, which has already outperformed other Christmas releases such as Rifle Club, Barroz, and Extra Decent with relative ease.
