Earlier, MT Vasudevan Nair’s daughter Ashwathy Nair, who directed the segment titled Vilpana in the anthology, picked her episode and Mahesh Narayanan’s Sherlock as the most challenging stories from the list. In a recent interview, the legendary writer agreed with his daughter’s views and admitted that Sherlock and Vilpana deal with the most complex subjects. Interestingly, MT Vasudevan Nair also stated that these two stories also happen to be his favourites from the collection.

“Sherlock, of course, I like very much. Also, as you say, Vilpana is a good story according to me,” stated the legendary writer. “There was a period when I was wandering all over the Bombay city. I was searching the newspaper and finding out ads. So, I had to visit a place where there was an advertisement for a typewriter. And I went to that place – right from there the whole thing happens,” recalled MT Vasudevan Nair, who spoke about the Manorathangal segment, Vilpana.

When he was asked about the episodes from Manorathangal that have autobiographical elements, the veteran writer revealed that all the stories have some of it. “In every writing, there will be a little bit of autobiographical elements. That’s why, sometime back, when many of my friends, writers wrote their autobiographies, I’m not for that. When somebody asked me, I said, many of the autobiographical elements which I want to write in this so-called autobiographical book – they have already come in some form or other, in my fictions,” revealed MT Vasudevan Nair.
