Significant excitement accompanied the inaugural partnership between Malayalam superstar Mammootty and filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon, not in the capacity of co-stars, but rather as actor and director. The film, titled Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse, was a concept that Gautham discovered and deemed ideal for Mammootty. Upon being presented with the idea, Mammootty promptly consented to take on the role and decided to produce the film under his own banner.

Released in theaters on January 23, the film did not achieve significant box office success, resulting in a moderate performance. Recently, it was confirmed that the film would be available on OTT platforms this week. "Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse" is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 7. It remains uncertain whether the film will be offered in other languages.

Featuring Gokul Suresh, Sushmitha Bhat, Shine Tom Chacko, and Meenakshi Unnikrishnan, among others, the film stars Mammootty in the titular role as a former police officer who becomes a private detective. When his landlady requests him to locate the owner of a ladies’ purse she discovers at a hospital, he reluctantly agrees to take on the case. However, it soon escalates into a complex investigation involving missing persons and murder. The question remains: can Dominic solve the case with the limited resources available to him as a private detective?

Before the film's release, Gautham expressed that depending on audience reception, the character Dominic could potentially evolve into a franchise, a prospect he was optimistic about. However, in light of the film's average box office results, it remains uncertain whether additional films featuring the detective will be produced.

In the meantime, Mammootty, who has already had two releases this year, including the re-release of Oru Vadakan Veeragatha, is preparing for his upcoming project, Bazooka, which is set to hit theaters on April 10. Gautham will also appear alongside Mammootty as an actor in the debut directorial venture of Deeno Denis.
