L2 Empuraan, the highly anticipated Prithviraj Sukumaran directorial which stars Mohanlal in the lead role, is nearing the final stages of its filming. The movie, which is a sequel to the 2019-released blockbuster Lucifer, has been making headlines with the speculations on its star cast, for quite some time. Recently, the rumour mills suggested that Mammootty is set to join the franchise with L2 Empuraan. It was speculated that the megastar appears as the godfather of Mohanlal’s character, Khureshi Abraam.
Mammootty in L2 Empuraan? Here’s the truth
According to the grapevine, Mammootty has been roped in to play a pivotal role in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s ambitious project. It was speculated that the veteran actor is appearing in the role of Mohanlal’s character Khureshi Abraam’s godfather, and the father of Zayed Masood, the character played by director Prithviraj, in the film. The speculations started doing rounds after producer Antony Perumbavoor hinted at the megastar’s collaboration with Mohanlal, and production banner Aashirvad Cinemas.
Later, Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran were recently spotted visiting Mammootty, which strengthened the rumours. However, the sources close to the prestigious project suggest that the speculations are baseless. The recent updates suggest that the megastar is indeed in talks to team up with the L2 Empuraan star and Aashirvad Cinemas for a project. However, the iconic duo of Malayalam cinema is coming together for a fresh project, not the upcoming Lucifer sequel. Notably, director Prithviraj and the makers of L2 Empuraan have not reacted to any of these reports, yet.
Mohanlal and Mammootty’s upcoming projects
As reported earlier, Mohanlal and Mammootty might come together for not just one, but two projects. Mammootty and Mohanlal are reportedly set to play the lead role in a new project, jointly produced by Mammootty Kampany and Aashirvad Cinemas. Some unconfirmed reports also suggest that the movie could be a sequel to Turbo, the Vysakh directorial, which is currently available for streaming on Sony LIV and OTTplay Premium. Mohanlal is also expected to play a pivotal role in the upcoming Mammootty starrer, directed by Mahesh Narayanan.
