The makers of Malayalam's latest film, Malayalee From India, dropped a major update about its OTT release. They confirmed that the movie, which stars Nivin Pauly and Dhyan Sreenivasan in prominent roles, will be available for streaming on SonyLIV in July. However, an exact date of release has not been announced.

Nivin Pauly and Dhyan Sreenivasan’s other latest film, Varshangalkku Shesham, began streaming on the same OTT platform on June 6. Given the anticipation surrounding it, it is assumed that the digital streaming platform also paid a substantial sum for the movie's digital rights.

It is reasonable to assume that starting the first week of July, Malayalee From India will be available for streaming on SonyLIV. It makes sense to believe that the delay of the OTT release has been caused by the film's lackluster box office performance and the mixed reviews it garnered after its theatrical release.

The movie follows aimless Aalparambil Gopi, whose life consists mostly of politics and cricket, as he unintentionally becomes involved in a hot-button issue in his hometown through his friend. This completely upends his life and forces him to face his own irrational prejudices while developing a closer friendship.

Malayalee From India, according to OTTplay's review, is a humorous and dramatic satire of the present socio-political situation that is at times moving and entertaining. The film made it very clear why people should avoid engaging in polarising politics and should not be conned. Even the central theme—that divisive politics readily wins over unsuspecting subscribers—is conveyed through relatable everyday situations rather than harsh discussion. Despite not breaking box office records or attracting large audiences to theatres, the film is still worth seeing for its humour and subject matter.
