Musician Ramesh Narayan's disagreement over receiving an award from Asif Ali during the Manorathangal trailer launch event in Kochi on Monday (15 July), has angered Malayalam film artistes. While some have voiced their opinions in conversations with different media outlets, the majority of them have taken to social media to discuss this issue and show support for Asif.
Actors’ reactions on this issue
Members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) praised the young actor on social media for handling the situation with utmost respect, despite being insulted in a public forum. Several artistes implied their support for Asif Ali by simply posting a picture of the actor smiling with no remarks. In a statement to a media outlet, Ramesh Pisharody said that Ramesh Narayan should have at least accepted the award in a proper way.
Jose Thomas, the director of Manorathangal's trailer launch event, has criticised Ramesh Narayan and Jayaraj for stirring controversy about the show he directed. He expressed regret for omitting Ramesh Narayan's name but clarified that the music composer's refusal to accept the memento was an error on the latter's part. Jose continued by saying that Jayaraj ought to have made a note to include the composer's name before the event.
Trolls against Ramesh Narayan on social media
Kerala's film enthusiasts, especially those who adore Asif Ali, are incensed over the incident that occurred in front of all the major stars in the industry. Netizens are now ruthlessly mocking Ramesh Narayanan for dehumanising the talented performer and showing him contempt by refusing the Manorathangal team's token of gratitude. Asif Ali was also commended for maintaining his composure. On social media, director Jayaraj is likewise receiving criticism regarding this matter.
Ramesh Narayan recently defended himself with an official statement after netizens started crudely trolling him for the repulsive behaviour. The musician claims that insulting Asif Ali was never his intention. The composer did acknowledge that there were other reasons why he had become angry at the time.
