The highly anticipated project, helmed by SS Rajamouli and featuring Mahesh Babu in the principal role, was officially inaugurated with a pooja ceremony in Hyderabad on Thursday. Provisionally named SSMB 29, indicating Mahesh's 29th film, the event was graced by the presence of the director, the actor, the costume designer, and Rama, Rajamouli's wife, among other attendees.

The adventure drama featuring Mahesh was formally inaugurated with a pooja ceremony held at the Aluminium Factory in Hyderabad. A photographer captured Rama's arrival at the venue on Thursday morning, shortly followed by Mahesh's entrance. Prominent members of the film's team were present at the ceremony. Mahesh underwent training for his role and altered his appearance to align with the character.

The actor made a concerted effort to stay out of the public eye, safeguarding his appearance for the film. Following the announcement of the pooja ceremony, enthusiastic fans on X (formerly Twitter) discovered an old tweet from Mahesh dating back to 2010, which stated, “4 all u people there's sum really good news:)looks like Rajamouli n Me r finally working together:) FINALLY :),” expressing their relief that the long-awaited day had finally arrived.

What we know about SSMB 29

Rajamouli has maintained a level of secrecy regarding his upcoming project, although it is understood that the film will be an action-adventure drama reminiscent of Indiana Jones. This was further corroborated by his father, writer Vijayendra Prasad, in several interviews. In 2024, the director conducted a location scout in Kenya, suggesting that part of the film would be filmed there.

Filming was initially scheduled to commence in mid-2024; however, delays in pre-production have occurred. While Pinkvilla has reported that Priyanka Chopra has been cast in the film, sources from the production team have dismissed this as mere speculation, according to Times Now. An official announcement is still pending.

During a special screening of RRR in Japan, Rajamouli spoke about the film, stating, “His name is Mahesh Babu, he is a Telugu actor (audience cheers). It seems many of you are already familiar with him. He is quite handsome. I hope we can complete the film promptly, and when it is released, I will bring him here to introduce him to you. I am confident you will appreciate him as well.”

Rajamouli's most recent directorial effort was the 2022 film RRR, featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, which received international acclaim. Mahesh Babu was last seen in Trivikram Srinivas’ Guntur Kaaram, which premiered last Sankranthi and garnered mixed reviews.
