For the first time, a Mahalaya-special Mahishasuramarddini will be screened on a Bengali OTT platform. While Rajnandini Paul will be seen as Ma Durga, Rohaan Bhattacharjee will play Lord Shiva in it. The actor talked about his playing the character in this iconic show.

Rohaan’s look as Shiva in the teaser came out. How is the response? Rohaan said, “Wonderful. Many people are writing about it on social media. The director Sayantan Mukherjee is also hopeful about the character.” Rohaan said previously he got offers to play the role but he didn’t agree. Why? Rohaan said, “I am a disciple of Shiva. My house also worships him. But I was not ready. I have been regularly exercising for the last year. The description I found about Lord Shiva from Shiva Purana and my father’s tales, he looked like a handsome man. I could make such a body at last and then I agreed.”

Rohan initially wanted to play Mahishasura. He said that he found the character attractive. But the director advised him to play Shiva. Debapriya Mukherjee plays Mahishashura. Rohaan does not regret losing the role. ‘We are good friends. Debapriya finished the dubbing and called me. He was praising me.’

Rohaan became popular playing Bhashan Bapi on a music reality show on television. He is playing the same role in another show. Rohaan said ‘The channel would not bring back the character if it was not popular.’ It is Bhashan Bapi on the one hand and Lord Shiva on the other. What is he thinking about these two roles? Rohaan said ‘That's the biggest challenge to an actor. There is a scope to reach the audience of all classes. I am still immensely praised for Bhashan Bapi.’

Rohaan came back to Kolkata on Sunday after a trip to Darjeeling. He eagerly awaits the audience’s reaction after Mahishashurmardini is shown on October 2.
