This year belongs to south cinema and there is no two ways about it. From the blockbusters churned out by the Malayalam industry to surprises like Lucky Baskhar and Amaran from Telugu and Tamil cinema, respectively, the southern entertainment industry has taken over. Lucky Baskhar – Netflix
Dulquer Salmaan, period dramas and Telugu cinema is a combination that can never go wrong. If you are fan of all these, then Lucky Baskhar should be on your OTT watchlist this weekend. Directed by Venky Atluri, the film revolves around a sincere bank employee who resorts to malpractices after getting fed up for not getting recognition. Lucky Baskhar also stars Ramki, Meenakshi Chowdhary and others.
Parachute – Disney+ Hotstar
Seldom do we get series that appeals to both children and adults. Parachute is a Tamil web series that revolves around a family of four from a humble background. After the two children go missing while they go on a ride on their father’s bike which they nicknamed as Parachute, the series highlights the importance of parenting, as well as contains innocent moments that form childhood. Starring Krishna, Kishore, Iyal, Shakthi, Kani Thiru and others, the series is helmed by Rasu Ranjith.
Her - Manorama Max
Malayalam cinema is once again picking topics less talked about, and this time it is with Her. A social drama, Her is helmed by Lijin Jose and stars a host of known faces, including Parvathy Thiruvothu, Remya Nambeesan, Urvashi, Aishwarya Rajesh, Prathap Pothen, Guru Somasundaram and Lijomol Jose among others. Her is Malayalam drama which revolves around five women who are fiercely independent, at the same time also connected somehow. Govind Vasantha has scored the music.
KA – ETV Win
Kiran Abbavaram-starrer Telugu film is directed by Sujith and Sandeep. The film revolves around a postman who moves to a rural place and begins to unearth some mysterious truths around him. The film has Nayan Sarika and Tanvi Ram play the female leads.
Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi – SunNXT
Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi is a Kannada film which marks the first collaboration of Golden Star Ganesh's with filmmaker Srinivasa Raju. The film is penned by Vijay Eshwar, Srinivas Raju, and AV Shiva Sai. Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi revolves around a son who comes from riches, becomes a valet, in order to win over his lady love's heart. The film also features Malvika Nair and Sadhu Kokila.
Brother – ZEE5
In mood to watch something with your family over the weekend? Brother should be your go to choice. Helmed by Rajesh M, with Jayam Ravi at the forefront, the Tamil film revolves around the brother-sister bond and how a troublesome brother wreaks havoc in the life of his sister’s family. The cast includes Priyanka Arul Mohan, Natty, Seetha, Bhumika Chawla and others.
Bloody Beggar – Prime Video/ SunNXT
If black comedies are your genre, and want to watch something with your friends, then Bloody Beggar, starring Kavin, is available on OTT. The actor looks almost unrecognisable as a lazy beggar who gets caught between the members of a rich family, scheming to get the wealth. Directed by Sivabalan, the film is produced by Nelson Dilipkumar.
Sshhh – Aha Tamil
A Tamil version of Lust Stories, Sshhh is an anthology film that talks about topics considered a taboo, like sex education, lust and desire. Directed by Prithivi Adithya who earlier helmed Clap, along with Vaali Mohan Das, Harish GY, and IB Karthikeyan, the primary cast members of the anthology series include actors Srikanth, Ineya, Soniya Agarwal, Aishwarya Dutta, Mime Gopi and many other new faces. The first two episodes are out.
