Lovely, featuring the young Malayalam actor Mathew Thomas in the lead role, has announced a new release date. This film, described as a fantasy comedy drama, was initially scheduled for an April release. However, the producers of the Dileesh Karunakaran-directed project have now confirmed that the release has been delayed until May. This month will also witness the debut of other anticipated Malayalam films, including Sarkeet, starring Asif Ali, and Dileep's Prince and Family.

Mathew Thomas’s Lovely to release in May 2025

Mathew Thomas, known for his roles in films like Premalu and 18+, announced on Instagram this past Saturday that his upcoming movie, Lovely, is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025. 

He shared on social media, "Lovely - A magical fantasy where the tiniest details ignite the grandest adventures - will be arriving in cinemas on May 2nd."

The film was initially scheduled for release on April 4; however, it did not meet this timeline, and there has been no official communication from the producers to date.

The screenplay is crafted by director Dileesh Karunakaran, known for co-writing acclaimed films such as Salt N’ Pepper and Mayaanadhi, both directed by Aashiq Abu. It is worth mentioning that Aashiq Abu also takes on the role of cinematographer for Lovely.

The cast of Lovely includes Manoj K Jayan, Radhika, Ashwathy Manoharan, Ganga Meera, and Prashanth Murali. The film is produced by Western Ghats Productions in collaboration with Neni Entertainment.

Mathew was last seen in the Malayalam film Bromance, alongside Arjun Ashokan, known for his role in Super Sharanya, as well as Mahima Nambiar and Sangeeth Prathap. He also appeared in the Tamil movie Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam, which was directed by Dhanush.

Other Malayalam films releasing in May 2025

A number of Malayalam films are set to be released in May. Asif Ali's movie Sarkeet, directed by Thamar KV, who is known for 1001 Nunakal, is scheduled to premiere on May 8. Dileep's film Prince and Family, which was initially planned for an April release, will now be released in theaters on May 9. Additionally, Dhyan Sreenivasan’s Detective Ujjwalan is expected to be released in May, although the production team has yet to confirm the exact date.
