After months of multiple updates and teases, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much-anticipated drama Love and War, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, is finally ready to begin filming.
Authentic set design in Film City to capture Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s vintage style
According to Mid Day reports, Film City's Studio 5 will recreate the vintage world associated with Bhansali's films on November 7. An insider reports that the opening scene requires 50 extras. Their role in the scene is that of sepoys, or soldiers. They take extreme care with every detail to ensure an accurate portrayal of the time.
Filming to begin with Ranbir Kapoor
An insider adds that the filmmaker plans to edit a teaser poster featuring all the stars after filming the introductory sequences with only Kapoor for a while. The source also informed the tabloid that Alia Bhatt doesn't begin filming her segments until December, but Vicky Kaushal will be joining the crew next week.
Only a few trusted groups have access to the set, ensuring the film's secrets remain well guarded. Rumour has it that it's an epic romance set against a military backdrop.
Not an adaptation
Earlier, rumours circulated that Love and War was an adaptation of Sangam. However, Bhansali refuted these reports, asserting to The Hollywood Reporter India that Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam bears similarities to Sangam. He would have liked to have transformed Aishwarya Rai Bachchan into Vyjayanthimala from the film. Despite his unwavering devotion to Raj Kapoor, this is clearly not the Sangam of his dreams. He added that one should never remake a classic film by a renowned filmmaker.
Further into Love and War, Bhansali went on to say that he is really looking forward to making this film. Regardless of the time period, it is a remarkable film. There are no more horses, pillars, or costumes. It's modern; it's unique. He is having fun with the new music, and he has fantastic performers on my roster. The filmmaker intends to take his time and do it right, as this project is truly challenging for him.
Love and War is slated to hit the big screen in 2026.
