The lineup for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's highly awaited film Love & War just got even more exciting. Fresh off the press, it looks like social media star Orry, known as Orhan Awatramani, will be joining the talented trio of Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal. Plus, it seems Deepika Padukone is set to make an appearance in this romantic drama as well.
Orry's character and the details about his role
India Today has gotten the scoop from a production insider that Love & War will include a character named Orry, who is Alia's best friend and identifies as gay. Alia will take on the role of a cabaret dancer, and Ranbir and Vicky will be playing Indian military officers.
Right now, there isn't a lot of info out there about Deepika's character. She's teamed up with Bhansali before on some highly acclaimed films like Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani, and Padmaavat.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali talks about being compared to Sangam
Earlier, when asked if Love & War was inspired by Raj Kapoor's Sangam, Bhansali told The Hollywood Reporter India, "Not at all." This came after some online users suggested the connection.
He praised Sangam as a fantastic film that he admires, noting that Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam shares some similarities with it. Bhansali even tried to channel Vyjayanthimala's essence from Sangam into Aishwarya Rai's character. While he has a lot of respect for Raj Kapoor, he made it clear that his film isn’t a remake of Sangam. He pointed out that trying to recreate a classic from a legendary director isn’t a smart move. Bhansali also questioned how anyone could possibly remake iconic films like Mughal-E-Azam, Sangam, or Pakeezah. He mentioned that Heeramandi pays tribute to Pakeezah, showcasing his admiration for Kamal Amrohi. Additionally, there were some speculations about his reasons for wanting to remake Sangam.
Excitement for Love & War
Bhansali shared his excitement for Love & War. Even after all this time, it’s still an incredible film. Sure, it’s missing some key elements like its costumes and horses, but it’s fresh and one-of-a-kind. The music stands out, and he’s really enjoying the process. The director has some amazing talent lined up, and he’s committed to taking his time to get this project just right, even though it’s a bit of a challenge for him.
On March 20, 2026, the highly anticipated film Love & War, described as an epic saga, is set to hit theaters.
