Seung-hyo (Jung Hae-in) and Seok-ryu (Jung So-min)’s parents had a fallout, but the children got closer. He proposed to her and she accepted it. Thus, it was now time to make their relationship official and take it to the parents. But, the timing isn’t right. Here’s a glimpse of what happened when Seung-hyo told his parents in the semi-finale of Love Next Door…

Seung-hyo’s mother guilt trips him after confession of dating Seok-ryu

Seung-hyo's mother Hye-sook (Jang Young-nam) guilts him into thinking he did not show up every night for dinner despite claiming that he wants to eat at the table with his mother and father together. She is shocked at the thought of Seung-hyo dating, nonetheless dating his childhood friend Seok-ryu, the daughter of her nemesis Mi-sook (Park Ji-young).

Seung-hyo's father Kyung-jong (Lee Seung-joon) takes his side by stating that they all at least have breakfast together. Seung-hyo agrees and states that he is actively trying to maintain his bond with his parents.

Seung-hyo confesses he liked Seok-ryu first

After calming down, Hye-sook asks her son when and how did he start dating Seok-ryu. She is also curious to know who initiated the relationship. Without giving Seung-hyo an opportunity to answer, she states out loud that Seok-ryu obviously liked him first. The father agrees as the mother claims that Seok-ryu saw how her son was perfect just by her side. "How can she not have thought about it?," she questions aggressively. To that, Seung-hyo confesses that he was the one to like Seok-ryu first (even when that is not exactly true, since Seok-ryu also believes she liked her boyfriend first). The mother is shocked on learning her son's truth, but he goes on to confess that he has liked her since childhood and the feelings grew stronger when they met again.

Seung-hyo’s parents furious that Seok-ryu tried to push him away

Seung-hyo recalls the many times Seok-ryu pushed him away and said no. Unable to digest so, the mother asks her son to pause on the confessions. She is furious that Seok-ryu dared to turn Seung-hyo down. When Seung-hyo tries to reason that it happened at first, but things are alright now, the mother has already stood up shouting that Seok-ryu thinks too much of herself. She questions what is wrong with her son to turn him down, and the father agrees. While the mother is furious that it happened to her son, the father is simply upset because even as a person, Seung-hyo is never treated that way.

Seung-hyo reveals wedding plans with Seok-ryu

Just as the parents were still getting over the fact that Seok-ryu initially rejected Seung-hyo, he goes on to reveal about how she has now accepted his marriage proposal. Of course, the mother is shocked that her son has already proposed marriage. She gets curious and asks him if there was any event too. Trying to make sense of the situation, Seung-hyo's mother accuses him of hosting an event and not inviting them to it. "Did you put flowers and balloons in the car,?" she asks out of the blue, and that, he did. The next question was whether he rented out an entire restaurant, and he did that too. Wondering the very thing, Seung-hyo asks if his mother planted something on him to spy on her son.
