Latest Kannada OTT releases (December 2 – December 8) to watch on Prime Video, Hotstar, Netflix, Sony LIV, theatres and more

This week in theatres is, without an iota of doubt, all about Allu Arjun's much-awaited sequel Pushpa 2: The Rule. Will the Sukumar directorial break the box office records of films like Baahubali 2 or KGF: Chapter 2? That's the big question. Allu Arjun has no major competition at the box office this week. On OTT, meanwhile, a much-loved Tamil film has a definite release date and will be available with Kannada audio too. There is a likelihood of a Kannada original dropping, but that's not been officially confirmed. 

Here's a look at the Kannada original and dubbed films releasing in theatres and on OTT in the week of December 2 to December 8

Pushpa 2 The Rule

The much-expected sequel to Allu Arjun’s Pushpa The Rise, Pushpa 2: The Rule is, undoubtedly, the big release of the week. The film is releasing with a Kannada version as well, although the Telugu original will get the maximum shows/screens. The Sukumar directorial has Kannada actors Daali Dhananjaya and Tarak Ponnappa in pivotal roles,

Dheera Bhagath Roy

Written and directed by Karnan S, Dheeera Bhagath Roy introduces Rakesh Dalwai in a tale set in 1970s Karnataka, during the land reforms era, where poor farmers are denied their rightful land by a powerful feudal lord, Varadiaha (Sharath Lohithashwa), who controls it through exploitation. Rakesh plays Rajan, a lawyer seeking justice for the downtrodden.

Murphy

Director BSP Varma’s musical romantic drama with a sci-fi angle, Murphy, has leading man Prabhu Mundkur in two roles - David and his late father Joseph. When David’s path crosses that of Janani, over air waves, even though they are separated by a few decades, they realize there is a deeper connection between them. The film also stars Dattanna and Ila Veermala in pivotal roles.

The team has recently announced that the film is OTT bound shortly and while a premiere date has not been forthcoming, the assumption is that it will be out on December 5, as a birthday gift to Prabhu, who’s also co-written Murphy.

Amaran

One of the big hits of 2024, Amaran, led by Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, is a biographical drama based on the life of late Major Mukund Varadarajan. Sivakarthikeyan plays Major Varadarajan, while Sai Pallavi fills in as his wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese. The film follows Major Varadarajan’s life and death, as told by Indhu, while on her way to receive his posthumous Ashoka Chakra.

Released in theatres for Deepavali, Amaran, directed by Rajkumar Periaswamy, will be available with Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi audio, besides the Tamil original version.

Matka

Varun Tej’s Telugu action period drama, inspired by the life of Matka gambler Ratan Khetri, the film by Karuna Kumar is set between 1958 and 1982 and follows 24 years in the life of Vasu, a Matkagambler and gangster. The film, which will have Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi audio options too when it comes on OTT, also stars Meenakshi Chaudhary, Nora Fatehi, Saloni Aswani, P Ravi Shankar, Kishore, etc.
