Aamir Khan's film Laal Singh Chaddha was among the most eagerly awaited releases of 2022. Directed by Advait Chandan, this film served as an Indian adaptation of the acclaimed Hollywood movie, Forrest Gump, featuring Aamir alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Mona Singh. Despite the high expectations, the film did not perform well at the box office. In a recent interview with Mid-Day, Advait discussed the impact of this commercial failure.

Advait Chandan on the box office setback of Laal Singh Chaddha  

Advait Chandan expressed the emotional toll that Laal Singh Chaddha's box office performance had on him. He stated, "I found myself in a dark place. I took the failure to heart; those feelings have not yet dissipated. I still become quite emotional when someone expresses their appreciation for Laal Singh Chaddha. I genuinely care about the audience and every critic. I have meticulously read every comment on the film’s trailer on YouTube and all feedback regarding the film on X (formerly Twitter)."

In the same discussion, Advait was inquired about his concerns regarding his career following the underperformance of his film with Aamir. In response, he expressed that a director often worries about the availability of future projects after a film featuring a major star fails to succeed.

"I hold deep gratitude for Aamir sir, as my craft and career would not exist without him. I would be nowhere without his influence. Just as Munna Bhai envisions Gandhi ji, I envision Aamir sir," he further stated.

Advait Chandan's upcoming film

Advait Chandan is currently anticipating the release of his forthcoming directorial project, Loveyapa. This film will serve as the cinematic debut of Junaid Khan, the son of Aamir Khan. Junaid made his acting debut in the Netflix film Maharaj, which premiered in 2024. Loveyapa also stars Khushi Kapoor, the daughter of Boney Kapoor and the late Sridevi. This romantic comedy is scheduled to hit theatres on February 7, 2025.
