Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2 Empuraan, starring Mohanlal, is unlike any other movie from Malayalam cinema. The film, written by Murali Gopi, will release only on March 27, 2025, but the hype around it is palpable. The release date of the second installament from the Lucifer trilogy was officially announced in November 2024 with a poster featuring a mysterious figure in white with a red dragon on the back of the shirt. Who is this mystery man is a much-discussed and debated topic on the internet. Now, the actor-cum-director Prithviraj has responded to the question. Read on... 

Prithviraj on L2 Empuraan dragon poster 

During a recent interview with Galatta India, L2 Empuraan director Prithviraj was asked about the mysterious man in the dragon poster. 

The interviewer listed the names of Mammootty, Fahadh Faasil and Basil Joseph and asked Prithviraj who among them was the mystery man. 

Prithviraj replied cheekily, “I could tell you, but then I will have to kill you.” When further pressed if it was one of the three, Prithviraj replied with a resolute “No”. 

But the Salaar actor did admit that he reached out to names in his ‘wish list, across the world’. But he had to let go of his list and cast actors who are suitable for the roles. He further stated that “do not expect earth-shatteringly big names.” 

Prithviraj, who has a way with words, categorically stated, “Mammootty sir is not there in this part of the franchise.” Does that mean he could be a part of the third installment, considering Lucifer is a trilogy?

Basil Joseph was also recently asked about the dragon poster during the promotions of his latest film Ponman. But the actor-director clearly stated that it was not him and if he was indeed part of the Mohanlal-starrer, why build so much hype and not just reveal his face?

Like its predecessor Lucifer, L2 Empuraan will once again be headlined by Mohanlal who gave a stellar performance as Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi-Ab'raam in the 2019 film. As L2 Empuraan is set to unfold the story of Khureshi-Ab'raam, fans have been pouring over the posters, the teaser and whatever glimpse that Prithviraj has allowed into his Lucifer world to unravel the mystery.
