The United Kingdom's secret intelligence agency, MI6, African drug cartels, and a notorious network that governs the global gold and diamond markets are central themes in Prithviraj Sukumaran’s upcoming film, L2: Empuraan, featuring Mohanlal. This was disclosed in a recent character video released by the production team.

In the video, Prithviraj introduces his character, Zayed Masood, who heads the elite force of Khureshi Ab’raam’s criminal organization. He stated, “In Lucifer, Zayed was presented merely as the mercenary commando associated with the notorious network led by Khureshi Ab’raam, which dominates the global gold and diamond trade. Like every character in this franchise, crafted by Murali Gopy, Zayed possesses a rich backstory that reveals a world he once inhabited. In L2: Empuraan, you will gain insight into this past and how Khureshi Ab’raam became intertwined with it within the Lucifer narrative.”

Prithviraj Sukumaran on L2 Empuraan’s plot

Regarding the plot of L2: Empuraan, the director, who previously collaborated with Mohanlal on Lucifer and Bro Daddy, elaborated on his vision for the sequel.

“In Lucifer, viewers encountered a multifaceted world populated by numerous characters and intricate relationships. In Empuraan, this complexity will expand, and the setting will become even more expansive. Nevertheless, we are committed to maintaining a coherent narrative throughout,” he remarked. “Lucifer concludes by suggesting that no greater force exists to challenge Khureshi Ab’raam. Is that truly the case, or is it merely a false perception?”

The production team has already unveiled key characters from the film, including returning actors Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, and Tovino Thomas, alongside new cast members such as Jerome Flynn from Game of Thrones, Eriq Ebuoaney, Kishore, and Abhimanyu Singh.

L2 Empuraan release plans

The film is anticipated to be the largest Malayalam release to date, scheduled to be screened in nearly 700 theaters throughout Kerala on March 27, featuring approximately 4,000 showings on that day. Additionally, the movie will be released simultaneously worldwide, and industry experts are already predicting that it will shatter several opening-day records within the realm of Malayalam cinema.
