L2 Empuraan's global box office earnings on day 7: Despite facing some controversy since its debut on March 27, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mohanlal's latest Malayalam film, L2 Empuraan, appears to be thriving. As reported by Sacnilk, the movie raked in ₹230 crore during its opening week and is on track to become the highest-grossing film in the Malayalam industry.

The trade website has reported that L2 Empuraan raked in ₹84.25 crore in India by its seventh day, bringing its total global earnings to ₹230.70 crore. The film smashed the ₹100 crore mark just two days after its release and hit ₹200 crore within five days. Despite being produced on a large budget, these figures signal a fresh start for the Malayalam film industry, which has been striving to push boundaries for some time.

Currently, the top-grossing Malayalam film is Manjummel Boys, released in 2024, which earned ₹240.5 crore throughout its run. It was the first Malayalam film to surpass the ₹200 crore milestone, with L2 Empuraan following as the second. Other notable high earners in the Malayalam cinema include 2018, The Goat Life, and Aavesham, which grossed ₹180 crore, ₹157.35 crore, and ₹154.79 crore, respectively.

L2 Empuraan also ranks among the highest-grossing Indian films of 2025, only surpassed by Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, which has nearly reached ₹800 crore in worldwide earnings.

L2 Empuraan is helmed by Prithviraj and penned by Murali Gopy. Serving as a follow-up to the successful 2019 film Lucifer, it delves into the backstories of Prithviraj’s character, Zayed Masood, and Mohanlal’s character, Khureshi Ab'raam, also known as Stephen Nedumpally. The movie faced some backlash due to its fictional portrayal of the 2002 Gujarat riots, prompting the team to make 24 voluntary edits to avoid offending anyone.
