In light of the controversy surrounding the portrayal of the alleged Gujarat riots in L2: Empuraan, the filmmakers have reportedly opted to implement several modifications to the movie. According to the Times of India, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has mandated 17 alterations to the film featuring Mohanlal. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the movie premiered in theaters on March 27.

The report, referencing its sources, indicated that following intervention from the central government, the CBFC office in Kerala conducted a review of the film and requested edits from the production team. If the revised version of L2: Empuraan is submitted by Monday, it is anticipated that the film will receive approval for screening shortly thereafter.
Producer's statement on the changes
It has been reported that the producers of the film have consented to the requested changes. Producer Gokulam Gopalan informed the Times of India that he has directed director Prithviraj to implement modifications "if any scenes or dialogues in the film have caused offense."

According to the film's production team, as reported by news agency ANI, the changes will involve edits to scenes depicting riots and instances of violence against women. The film includes an extensive sequence illustrating the 2002 Gujarat riots, featuring one of the perpetrators as the primary antagonist. The sensitive nature of this portrayal has sparked political unrest in Kerala.
L2: Empuraan's record-breaking success
Since its release, the film has achieved remarkable success, becoming the fastest Malayalam film to gross over 100 crores globally within just two days, as reported by Sacnilk.com. It has also set a record as the highest-grossing Malayalam film at the overseas box office.
As a sequel to Lucifer, L2: Empuraan is regarded as one of the most expensive productions in Malayalam cinema and features a cast that includes Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas, Abhimanyu Singh, Manju Warrier, Jerome Flynn, and Eriq Ebouaney.
