The trade website indicates that the film generated approximately ₹2.53 crore net in India on its second Friday, bringing the overall total to ₹90.78 crore net. Following its release on March 27, the film enjoyed a remarkable opening of ₹21 crore and amassed ₹88.25 crore net during its first week. As of Tuesday, daily earnings have decreased to single digits; however, the film has maintained a steady performance in its collections despite this decline. With the weekend nearing, it will be interesting to observe whether the collections will improve and provide a boost to the film's performance.

Mohanlal-Prithviraj Sukumaran film breaks records

L2 Empuraan, the follow-up to the 2019 movie Lucifer, has set new records following its release. It surpassed the opening weekend earnings of Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava, benefiting from a Thursday release compared to a Friday one. This film has achieved the milestone of being the first Malayalam production to reach a worldwide share of ₹100 crore. Additionally, it has exceeded the ₹250 crore threshold globally, overtaking Manjummel Boys to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film. Furthermore, it ranks among the top-grossing Indian films of 2025.

The controversy surrounding it

L2 Empuraan delves into the background of Prithviraj’s character, Zayed Masood, connecting it to a fictionalized portrayal of the 2002 Gujarat riots. Following its release, the film encountered significant criticism, prompting the creators to voluntarily implement 24 edits. In response to allegations that the ruling party exerted pressure on the team to make these changes, Suresh Gopi refuted such claims during a parliamentary session on Thursday. The film also features prominent performances by Tovino Thomas and Manju Warrier.
