Mohanlal's recent action thriller, L2 Empuraan, has become a focal point of controversy following its release on Thursday, March 27. The film, written by Murali Gopi and directed by actor Prithiviraj Sukumaran, serves as the second installment in the anticipated Lucifer trilogy.

According to a report by Sacnilk, the film featuring Mohanlal has generated Rs 78 crore in India across all languages within just six days. It has also set a new record at the global box office, becoming the fastest Malayalam film to surpass Rs 200 crore in only two days. With no significant Malayalam releases scheduled until April 10, Empuraan is anticipated to enjoy a smooth and successful run in theaters.

Empuraan team makes changes following backlash from right-wing groups

Empuraan has become the center of controversy after facing backlash from right-wing groups regarding certain elements in the film. In response, the Empuraan team opted to implement "voluntary modifications." Among the alterations made are the removal of BJP leader Suresh Gopi's name from the thank-you card, muting the term NIA, and eliminating visuals of vehicles passing by religious sites, as well as the removal of a religious structure. These adjustments are part of a total of 24 changes made by the filmmakers.

The sequel was released in theaters six years after the premiere of its predecessor, Lucifer, which is regarded as one of Mohanlal's major blockbuster thrillers. The dubbed version of Lucifer is available for viewing on OTTplay Premium at a discounted rate.
