The makers of the Tamil film Kottukkaali, also known as The Adamant Girl, have announced a theatrical release date today (July 23). It has been confirmed that the movie will hit the big screens on August 23. Kottukkaali, which features Soori and Anna Ben in the key roles, is directed by P S Vinothraj.

This project marks Anna Ben's Tamil debut. In addition to accolades from other international festivals, the movie recently won the Transilvania International Film Festival's special jury award in the main competition. Actor Sivakarthikeyan provided financial backing for the film through his company, Sivakarthikeyan Productions. The screenplay for Kottukkaali was written by the film's director himself.

What is Kottukkaali all about?

The main character of Kottukkaali is a young lady who dates a man from a lower caste, but her family believes she is possessed and has been under a spell. The film examines a family's strange desire to perform an exorcism on the woman, all the while focussing on the important topic of patriarchy and unjust treatment of women.

Anna Ben about her character in Kottukkaali

Social media is ablaze with excitement as fans speculate that the story will be significantly distinct from Soori and Anna Ben's previous films after seeing the teaser. During an extensive interview with Baradwaj Rangan, the actress discussed her Kottukkaali character and her preparation for the part.

She revealed that she did not have numerous lines in the movie, which is one really interesting aspect about this project. "You don't have to worry," the director assured me right away, citing the film's strong roots. "Essentially, you have two lines. And I said, "All right." Thus, that's a positive thing," she disclosed.

The actress went on to say that nobody spoke any language other than Tamil on the set when she got there. She continued, "I was naturally picking up the language to converse, even with the director." She added that learning the language at that point was a major victory for her.
