Daali Dhananjaya’s first release for the year was Kotee, the directorial debut of Parameshwar Gundkal, best known for his time leading the popular general entertainment channel Colors Kannada, among others. Param, as he is known in industry circles, would have a trick or two up his sleeve as he turns filmmaker, it was thought, what with him helming the first-ever Kannada production by Jio Studios.

Param kept the film under wraps, until after he was done shooting it and officially announced it with a teaser and release date. Given that Dhananjaya was pitted against Ramesh Indira, Kannada cinema’s new favourite bad guy, after Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, the film had high expectations around it. But when the film came out, it didn’t meet those expectations.

Dhananjaya's Kotee's now on OTT

The film has made its way to OTT, two months after its theatrical outing. It was initially thought that Kotee would drop on JioCinema, given it was produced by the company’s production wing. But contrary to that, the film’s landed on another platform, which, as it turns out is the go-to for most Kannada films – Amazon Prime Video. Kotee has begun streaming on Prime Video as of August 14.

Kotee had Dhananjaya as the title character, a young cab driver, who also runs a packers-and-movers business, as the primary breadwinner of his family, which includes his mother, and two younger siblings. Despite his best effort, the honest to a fault Kotee never catches a break and against his instincts falls deeper and deeper in debt. The only way out of this situation is take up a job that local crime boss Dinoo Saavkaar wants him to do. The problem, though, is that the job goes against Kotee’s ethics. Will he take it up after all?

Dhananjaya will next be seen in the KRG Studios production Uttarakaanda, a gangster flick in which he is joined by Shivarajkumar, Aishwarya Rajesh, Bhavana, among many others. This is Dhananjaya’s third collaboration with KRG Studios and second with director Rohit Padaki. He’s also got the Telugu flicks Zebra and Pushpa 2, apart from his net with Shankar Guru, Anna From Mexico, in his kitty.
