In mid-May, Kiccha Sudeep had posted a video of him leaving Mahabalipuram, where he’d been shooting for his next, Max, for 10 months. Fans were thrilled, but not long after, a discussion on a Tamil television channel hinted that the film was not complete after all. It was not clear, at the time, if the pending work was post-production or if director Vijay Karthikeyan had to shoot more. However, the latest buzz is that Max may be in theatres sooner than expected.

Recently, a Kannada film PRO, who has been working on the publicity and promotion of Max tweeted “August 15” with no other detail. This had fans and netizens speculating if Sudeep’s film was taking up the Independence Day slot vacated by Shivarajkumar’s Bhairathi Ranagal, which was the news they were hoping for, or if the film’s first major official update would be made on that day. Industry sources also suggest that Max will likely be in theatres on August 15, with an official announcement expected shortly.

A synopsis of Max, which sees Sudeep in cop mode again, on a ticket aggregator site had several netizens pointing out that the plot seemed similar to that of the Telugu film Krack. This, of course, had the actor’s naysayers go to town on social media with a claim that it is a remake. Some of Sudeep’s biggest career hits have been remakes of Tamil and Telugu films.

The team of Shivarajkumar’s Mufti prequel, Bhairathi Ranagal is yet to officially announce its postponement. The Narthan-directorial has been delayed, as the Century Star took time off to campaign for his wife, Geetha, who’d contested the recent Lok Sabha elections from Shivamogga. Since the election, Shivarajkumar has been devoting time to finishing his pending films Bhairathi Ranagal and 45 (the directorial debut of composer Arjun Janya), and has begun shooting for his portions in the two-part gangster flick Uttarakaanda as well.
