It’s been ten years since Rakshit Shetty, the actor and filmmaker, first talked about Thugs of Malgudi, a project where he was set to direct Kiccha Sudeep. The movie was supposed to take place in the early 19th century and focus on the Thugs or Thugees, who the British labeled as a group of robbers and murderers they felt needed to be eliminated. Many historians argue that this was the British's way of suppressing any opposition. Rakshit aimed to highlight the story of the Thugees, but unfortunately, it hasn’t come to fruition yet.

A few days back, Rakshit was asked again if Thugs of Malgudi was still on his radar for future projects. He confirmed that it remains one of his favorite scripts and is definitely still in the plans, but he couldn't specify when he would actually start working on it. Of course, getting Thugs of Malgudi off the ground means Sudeep would need to be involved after all these years.

So, what does the Kannada superstar think about teaming up with Rakshit? While promoting his new film Max, Sudeep mentioned that it's really nice of Rakshit to keep expressing his desire to collaborate someday.

Sudeep shared his thoughts, saying, “Honestly, that’s the most fictional line ever. I say this with a lot of affection because Rakshit is evolving, and it’s time to give him some space. If you pay attention, every time he’s asked about Thugs of Malgudi, he mentions planning 3, then 4, and eventually 6 films. He gets a bit flustered when people ask if we’ll work together, which puts him in a tough spot. He’s a huge dreamer, and it’s never about just him. He’s passionate about cinema, so it’s time to let him follow his dreams. Let’s stop asking if he’ll make a film with me.”

He also mentioned that he doesn’t want to hold Rakshit to a promise made ages ago. “If Thugs of Malgudi happens, Rakshit will be part of the cast,” Sudeep concluded.
