Keanu Reeves has suggested that he may consider reprising his role in John Wick 5; however, it appears that his physical condition and personal inclination are not fully aligned. In a recent interview on CBS Mornings, where he promoted his voice role as Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the 60-year-old action star discussed the possibility of returning as the iconic assassin, as fans eagerly anticipate news regarding the next instalment of the franchise. Nevertheless, it seems that a return is currently not feasible, primarily due to concerns regarding Reeves' knees.

Keanu Reeves expresses uncertainty regarding whether his knees can endure the demands of John Wick 5

During a promotional event for a new film directed by Jeff Fowler, Reeves was inquired about the possibility of a fifth instalment in the John Wick series. Although he expressed a desire for another opportunity to portray the character, he acknowledged that his knees, after enduring years of demanding stunts, are less supportive of the idea. "You can never say never, but my knees right now are saying, 'You can't do another John Wick,'" Reeves humorously remarked, adding, "My heart [wants to], but I don't know if my knees can do it."

Fowler interjected, "Which is why you can voice Shadow for, like, decades to come — there are no physical limitations, just your voice!" To which Reeves responded, "I'm free!" Reeves first introduced the iconic hitman in 2014, when John Wick premiered as a gritty narrative focused on a man seeking vengeance for his dog's death at the hands of Russian mobsters.

While fans may feel disheartened by the prospect of no new John Wick film in the near future, Keanu Reeves is not completely stepping away from the character. He is scheduled to make a cameo as the legendary assassin in the forthcoming spinoff, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina.

Keanu Reeves's role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3

During the interview, Reeves elaborated on his involvement in the upcoming project, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, in which he voices the antagonist, Shadow. While plans for a fourth instalment are underway, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is already capturing the festive spirit, achieving remarkable success on its first Monday. Benefiting from positive word-of-mouth, the film has recorded the second-largest opening weekend in the franchise's history, surpassed only by its predecessor, Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Fowler, a lifelong enthusiast of the Sonic franchise, expressed that his appreciation for Shadow originated early in his career while working on the 2005 video game that highlighted Sonic's more intricate and darker counterpart. In an interview with Variety, Fowler characterized Shadow as the “yin to Sonic’s yang,” emphasizing the character's development through adversity and a distinctly different journey.

Acknowledging these attributes, Fowler recognized that Reeves, celebrated for his roles in intense and multifaceted characters such as John Wick, was the perfect candidate to embody Shadow in the Sonic Cinematic Universe.

"There are clear similarities between John Wick and Shadow," Fowler noted, adding, "Keanu has consistently portrayed complex, brooding characters with a significant edge. He was the ideal choice for Shadow," as reported by Variety.
