Pariyerum Perumal star Kathir is all set to headline yet another web series, titled Lingam. Director Prasanth Pandiyaraj, who helmed the web series Vilangu, is presenting the upcoming series, which is set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar. The makers officially launched the series on March 26 and pictures from the sets have now been released, with the cast and crew posing in front of the title. 

What is Lingam all about?

The web series is written and directed by Lakshmi Saravanakumar, who has written the dialogues for Shankar’s Indian 2. It stars Kathir, Dhivya Bharathi, and Poornima Ravi in leading roles. Touted to be a gangster thriller, more details regarding the plot of the series are yet to be revealed. 

Is Lingam based on the infamous gangster, Rowdy Lingam?

Although the makers are tight-lipped about the vital information surrounding the upcoming series, some sources have revealed that the series is loosely based on the real-life story of Kanyakumari's notorious gangster, Rowdy Lingam. Rowdy Lingam was arrested and detailed in a district jail in Nagercoil. In 1996, a gang broke into Lingam's prison and brutally murdered him. This incident shook the state of Tamil Nadu and now a series adaptation of his life has piqued the interest of cinephiles. 

Kathir’s other upcoming OTT show

Meanwhile, Kathir will be returning as a police officer in Kaalipattanam to unravel another mystery in the village in Suzhal: The Vortex. Amazon Prime Video confirmed the second season of the crime thriller, which also stars Kathir and Aishwarya Rajesh.
