Meiyazhagan, the recently released Tamil film starring actors Karthi and Arvind Swamy in the lead roles, had a runtime of nearly three hours. However, after a few days since the release, the makers will be trimming Meiyazhagan by 18 minutes. The new version will begin playing in theatres from September 30.

Meiyazhagan, the Tamil film featuring Karthi and Arvind Swamy in the lead roles. The film debuted in theatres on September 27 and opened to positive reviews. However, the film also invited a fair share of criticism for its runtime of nearly three hours.

Meiyazhagan runs for 2 hours and 57 minutes, and the film is majorly driven by the conversation the lead roles have between them. With the film being dialogue-heavy, many viewers found the film lengthy. Taking their views into consideration, the film will be trimmed by 18 minutes and will play in theatres from September 30 onwards. However, it is not known what portions are being cut off.

Meiyazhagan is written and directed by Prem Kumar, who earlier made the critically acclaimed film 96. The upcoming film marks the director’s second film after 96 and first collaboration with Karthi. Bankrolled by Suriya and Jyothika under the banner 2D Entertainment, Meiyazhagan is an emotional drama that revolves around two men who are related to each other and the events that unfold between them over the night. The film has been receiving good word of mouth after the premiere show conducted by the makers.

Meiyazhagan also stars Sri Divya, Rajkiran, Devadarshini, Jayaprakash, Saran and others. The technical crew of the film consists of Mahendran Jayaraju cranking the camera and Govind Vasantha scoring the music. Actor Kamal Haasan has also lent his voice to one of the tracks in the film. R Givindaraj has handled the edits. The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film have been bagged by Netflix.
