Karma K-drama ending explained: Here’s why Park Hae-soo meets his end at the finale
The story centers on six characters, all linked in unexpected ways. While there are six main players, Park Hae-soo stands out as the one whose wrongful actions push the others into a life of crime.
Here’s a breakdown of the events:
Lee Kwang-soo’s character, who has a lovely girlfriend named Lee Yu-jeong (played by Gong Seung-yeon), makes a fatal choice after mistakenly believing he’s about to commit a crime.
Shin Min-ah’s character, Ju Yeon, is a surgeon grappling with the trauma of her past as a rape survivor.
Lee Hee-joon’s Park Jae-yeong faces threats from his landlord over unpaid rent, leading him to devise a plan to kill his father for the insurance payout.
Kim Sung-kyun’s Gil Ryong finds himself unemployed and is coerced into a risky scheme involving a large sum of money.
Meanwhile, Park Hae-soo’s character resorts to murder and disguises himself to escape the fallout.

Karma kicks off with a construction site going up in flames, leaving one survivor: Park Hae-soo. At first glance, it’s hard to believe that Hae-soo is the one responsible for the fire. Now, let’s rewind a bit. A few days before the blaze, Lee Hee-joon’s character, Park Jae-yeong, is being pressured by his landlord to pay overdue rent. The landlord threatens him with dire consequences—if he doesn’t settle the bill in 30 days, he’ll have his organs removed. And who’s the doctor behind this grim surgery? It’s Kim Nam Gil’s Yun Jeong-min, who happens to be dating surgeon Ju Yeon.
Desperate for cash, Jae-yeong enlists Gil Ryong to take out his father so he can cash in on the insurance. Gil Ryong, who has a history with Hae-soo from their time in prison, ropes him in to help with the plan. However, things go awry during the attempted murder when their car hits Jae-yeong’s father, but he doesn’t die.
In a panic, Hae-soo covers the man’s mouth and ultimately kills him, then disposes of the body by tossing it off an overpass, where it lands on a couple’s car—none other than Lee Kwang-soo’s character and his girlfriend.
The viewers witness an incident involving an overbridge where it appears that Lee Kwang-soo's character and his girlfriend have struck a man. To steer clear of legal trouble, Kwang-soo devises a plan to dispose of the body in a remote location. Just before he goes through with it, he spots Hae-soo cycling by, acting oblivious to the situation. Feeling threatened, Kwang-soo offers Hae-soo a bribe to assist him in burying the corpse. What the audience doesn't realize at this point is that Hae-soo and Kwang-soo's so-called girlfriend are actually in cahoots, scheming to betray others for money.
After they bury the body, Hae-soo starts demanding more cash from Kwang-soo. Eventually, Kwang-soo discovers that his girlfriend is connected to Hae-soo, leading him to kill her. In a twist, Hae-soo then takes Kwang-soo's life as well, positioning himself as the prime suspect in two murders.
Let’s return to the hospital where Hae-soo has been brought after the fire incident. By this point, he has already murdered both Gil Ryong and the debtor by setting the building ablaze and impersonating the debtor, Park Jae-yeong. When the female surgeon hears the name Park Jae-yeong, it triggers painful memories from her childhood, as he had assaulted her along with his friends. However, she can't recall his face, which leads her to mistakenly identify Hae-soo as the real Jae-yeong. She feels a strong urge to kill him but is restrained by her boyfriend, ultimately saving her from a cycle of bad Karma.
On the flip side, Hae-soo, while posing as the debtor, is unaware that the real debtor had outstanding bills to settle. On the day the payment is due, he is captured by the landlord's men, and as agreed, his organs are harvested by Dr. Yun Jeong-min. This is how Hae-soo ultimately faces his own Karma and meets his demise.
