Producer Karan Johar delivered an emotional address at the recent trailer launch event in Delhi for Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, emphasizing the film's significant historical relevance.

Film that demands an apology from the British Empire

He expressed, "This is a tribute to the lives that were lost, to the wounds that remain unhealed, and to the sorrow that still envelops Jallianwala Bagh today. This film does not serve as a tribute or an honor; rather, it seeks an apology from the British Empire through the courageous story of Sankaran Nair. It portrays the struggle of Sankaran Nair against the Crown. Kesari: Chapter 2 embodies neither joy nor sorrow, but rather anger."

Chapter 2 of Kesari centers on Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair's courageous legal battle against the British Raj, delving into the consequences of the heartbreaking Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919. Akshay Kumar portrays Nair, depicting the story of a man who bravely challenged colonial authority in his quest for justice. The film also features notable performances by R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday.

Akshay Kumar as Sankaran Nair and his fight against Colonel Dyer

In this film, Akshay embodies the resolute spirit of Sankaran Nair as he courageously challenges Colonel Reginald Dyer, the British officer accountable for the tragic 1919 massacre that resulted in the deaths of countless innocent individuals. The trailer showcases Ananya in the role of Dilreet Gill, a determined barrister who stands alongside Nair in the pursuit of justice. Additionally, the captivating preview highlights the character of Neville McKinley, portrayed by Madhavan, as a clever strategist.

Produced by Leo Media Collective, Cape of Good Films, and Dharma Productions, Kesari Chapter 2 is directed by Karan Singh Tyagi. The film is set to be released in theaters on April 18, 2025, coinciding with Good Friday. This carefully chosen release date underscores its historical significance and philosophical richness.

Sequel in spirit to Kesari

The decision to label the film as a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Kesari was intentional, aimed at emphasizing the common themes present in both narratives. While the original Kesari centered on the Battle of Saragarhi, this new installment seeks to shed light on another pivotal moment in India's struggle for independence. The emotionally charged action film Kesari depicted the sacrifices made by Sikhs during the pre-Independence period. Although there are notable distinctions between the 2019 film and the courtroom drama by C Sankaran Nair, the producers deemed Kesari Chapter 2 an appropriate title, as it features Akshay and explores the valiant resistance of the Sikh community against British rule.

In addition to its artistic value, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh aims to inspire reflection on historical injustices and the persistent quest for accountability. The film endeavors to resonate with contemporary viewers by emphasizing the sacrifices made in the pursuit of justice and freedom, as exemplified by Sankaran Nair's defiant position.
