The eagerly awaited mythological film Kannappa, featuring Vishnu Manchu, Akshay Kumar, and Prabhas, has had its release date postponed from the originally scheduled April 25. The production team has opted to delay the launch, citing the necessity for additional time to refine a significant VFX-intensive sequence.

On Saturday, Vishnu Manchu took to social media to explain the reason for the postponement, expressing his apologies for the delay and reassuring fans that the extra time will enhance the overall cinematic experience, making it worthwhile. A new release date is anticipated to be announced shortly.
In his message, he stated, “Dear fans, well-wishers, and movie enthusiasts, bringing #KANNAPPA to fruition has been an extraordinary journey, and we are dedicated to delivering a cinematic spectacle that adheres to the highest standards. To achieve this, we require a few more weeks to perfect a crucial segment that involves extensive VFX work. Consequently, the release of the film will be slightly delayed.”
“We genuinely regret the wait and recognize the excitement surrounding this project. Your patience and support mean everything to us, and we truly appreciate it. Kannappa is a homage to Lord Shiva's most devoted follower, and we aim to present it in the most remarkable manner possible. Our team is working diligently, and we assure you it will be worth the wait. We will provide an update and the new release date soon,” he added.
About the film
Kannappa is a mythological drama film that draws inspiration from the story of Bhakta Kannappa, a devoted disciple of Lord Shiva. The lead role of Kannappa will be portrayed by Vishnu Manchu, with Mohanlal and Prabhas taking on significant supporting roles. Akshay Kumar will depict Lord Shiva, while Kajal Aggarwal will assume the role of Goddess Parvati. The film, produced by M. Mohan Babu, was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024.
On March 1, the film's teaser was unveiled, providing a preview of the epic retelling of Thinnadu’s narrative, a courageous warrior who undergoes a significant transformation to become a dedicated follower of Lord Shiva.
The teaser presents Vishnu Manchu as Thinnadu, a valiant warrior who, confronted with the brutal realities of battle and the loss of his comrades, begins to reevaluate his beliefs. The storyline centers on his evolution into a devoted adherent of Lord Shiva. Additionally, the teaser features Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva and Kajal Aggarwal as Goddess Parvati. Mohanlal captivates as Kirata, while the final moments of the teaser highlight Prabhas’s entrance as Rudra.
