It took the team of the Kannada thriller Shakhahaari a good 2 months to get it on to a streaming platform following its theatrical run and now, a further 2 months later, they are expanding the film’s reach with an additional language option. As of this week, Shakhahaari, which is streaming on Amazon Prime Video, is available with Telugu audio as well.

Shakhahaari is the directorial debut of Sandeep Sunkad and stars Rangayana Raghu and Gopalkrishna Deshpande in the lead. The film came out on February 16, a day on which there were multiple other Kannada movies vying for a share of the box office. Shakhahaari opened to largely positive reviews, but despite that, Sandeep was later quoted as saying that the film failed to break even with the theatrical run. 

Upon its OTT release, Shakhahaari got fairly good response, with netizens stating that it is not only a must-watch, but also one of the best films of 2024. As has been the case with several other films off late, Shakhahaari too had several viewers regretting that they did not catch it when it was in theatres. Rangayana Raghu and Gopalkrishna Deshpande’s “mind-blowing” performances were hailed by all who caught the film.

All about Shakhahaari

As far as the plot of the film goes, Shakhahaari follows a small-time chef called Subbanna, who runs a local eatery in his hometown. The modest outlet also doubles up as his home. When a fugitive on the run from the police takes refuge in Subbanna’s home, after being injured by a bullet, the latter decides to keep the cops of his scent, while also tending to the injury. However, despite Subbanna’s best efforts, the fugitive succumbs to his injuries. What he then does with the body and what becomes of the police investigation is what Shakhahaari is about.

The film’s primary cast also includes Pratima Nayak, Nidhi Hegde, Vinay UJ, Sujay Shastry, among others. Written by Sandeep along with SR Girish, Shakhahaari boasts music by Mayur Ambekallu, which is one of the main highlights of the film.
