Kannada producer Pushkara Mallikarjunaiah, who produced Rakshit Shetty’s Avane Srimannarayana, has accused Nani and the team behind Hi Nanna of copying his film Bheema Sena Nala Maharaja. In an Instagram story that has since been deleted, he referred to it as a ‘cheap thing to do,’ as reported by Pinkvilla.

Mallikarjunaiah shouts for Nani

The publication shared screenshots of Mallikarjunaiah’s Instagram stories where he called out the creators of Hi Nanna and Nani. He posted images of Hi Nanna and Bheema Sena Nala Maharaja, alleging that the director Shouryuv didn’t secure the remake rights. He stated, “Hi Nanna was made by copying our original film #BheemaSenaNalaMaharaja without obtaining #RemakeRights. What a low move, @nameisnani.” So far, neither Nani nor Shouryuv has replied to the producer’s comments.

Hi Nanna, produced by Vyra Entertainments, features Nani, Mrunal Thakur, and Kiara Khanna in the main roles. Bheema Sena Nala Maharaja, directed by Karthik Saragur and produced by Mallikarjunaiah, Rakshit, and Hemanth M Rao, hit Prime Video in 2020 as part of the Great Indian Festival, missing a theatrical release due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The film is inspired by the six rasas—sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and astringent—each represented by a character. Starring Aravinnd Iyer and Aarohi Narayan alongside Priyanka, Aadya, and Achyut Kumar, it tells the tale of a cook sharing his love story with a stranger.
