Kanguva star's loss is Amaran actor's gain? How Sivakarthikeyan got the lead role in film meant for Suriya
10 days ago | 5 Views
Almost two weeks in, it has been proven that Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran has become a bonafide success, ruling the hearts of people and the cash registrars at the theatres. Amaran is a film that spoke about one of the brave hearts India has witnessed and sealed the deal for Sivakarthikeyan as a star in more than one way. It catapulted Sivakarthikeyan among the masses as more than just a hero and made him attain that stardust that comes with the crowd-pulling capacity of the theatres. With Amaran collecting over Rs 200 crore in 10 days, and enjoying a solo release for two weeks, so much so that Netflix expected to push the OTT release date by a week, will the next big release, Suriya’s Kanguva take a hit, or overpower Amaran?
Kanguva star's loss is Amaran actor's gain?
Amaran and Kanguva might not be similar, for one is a biopic of an Indian Army leader, while the latter is a period fantasy drama about a clash of clans. But Suriya and Sivakarthikeyan have one thing in common. The cue is Sudha Kongara. In short, what once was Suriya 43, now allegedly has become SK 25. Director Sudha Kongara was supposed to have collaborated with Suriya for the second time after Soorarai Pottru, which was announced as Suriya 43, also starring Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay Varma, and Nazriya Fahadh. However, due to undisclosed reasons, the Kanguva star had to opt out of the project, resulting in a replacement.
Composer GV Prakash, who is scoring for the project, recently hinted that the film’s production is on, and it will mark the 25th project of a star, without taking names. With a possibility of a second collaboration between the composer and Sivakarthikeyan on SK 25, the latter appeared to have grabbed the opportunity once Suriya let go of his project with Sudha Kongara.
Now, this could mean many positives for Sivakarthikeyan, who has been enjoying the success and glory of Amaran and is all set to work with established directors. While his next (SK 23) is with none other than Thuppakki director AR Murugadoss, SK 24 is set to witness the Don collaboration once again with Cibi Chakravarthy, and the landmark 25th film with Sudha Kongara. With this project, Sivakarthikeyan not only slowly rises to the rungs of first-tier actors, but also cements himself as a bankable name enough to carry bigger projects on his shoulders. Whether Suriya’s loss will be Sivakarthikeyan’s win is something one should wait and watch.
Amaran Vs Kanguva
Even though Amaran was released in theatres with two other films; Brother and Bloody Beggar, the Sivakarthikeyan film has been successful of the lot. The film has been running in most of the theatres, for all the shows, showing a massive growth in ticket sales and box office collections.
Now, this puts Kanguva in a state of uncertainty. Even if the film has a star like Suriya, and known names like Disha Patani, Bobby Deol, and director Siruthai Siva are associated with the project, one really cannot undermine the success of Amaran, and how theatres will be willing to accommodate a winning formula over the other. Even as, Kanguva will be enjoying a solo release this week and its pan-Indian marketing, we will have to wait and watch, if Suriya’s film will be able to grab more screens from the hands of Sivakarthikeyan.
Kanguva, helmed by Siva, is one of the recent Tamil films to be made on a massive budget. With scores of Suriya fans eagerly waiting to watch their star on the big screens, given how Kanguva is also Suriya’s first full-fledged film in two years, all eyes are set on November 14. Only time can tell which film is going to take over the box office this weekend, but for now, let’s wait for some good cinema.
